Military Deployment

Ten years in the military and it still does not get any easier saying goodbye. Twelve months means I’ll miss Christmas, all three of the kids’ birthdays, my wife’s birthday, our anniversary and the first day of school for the kids. Seeing my daughter clinging to my wife and having my two boys absolutely refusing to let me go, just tears my heart out, but I’ve got a job to do. I keep telling myself to keep my mind on the mission and the time will fly, but I just can’t help to think that by the time I get back, my baby girl will be walking and possibly talking. But as any good soldier knows, success in a mission relies heavily on the preparation for the mission. That’s why before I left; I made sure all of my affairs were in order, including the welfare of my family.
