My entire extended family has Direct TV Raleigh now I swear, even the aunts and uncles in North Carolina. It is so funny that we all ended up getting the same TV service. In a way, it makes every house feel a little like our own. I know the husbands all enjoy it very much. It means that no matter where we go for the holidays, the men will be able to watch their favorite sports games and teams. I know my husband has said that he is really happy about that. Of course, it does not faze me all that much. I do think it is good all the guys can get together and bond over something whenever we get together. The families do not get together as much as they should. I think it is because we all live so far apart. My husband’s brother and some of his family live in North Carolina. We live in Pennsylvania and his parents have moved around a bit recently. It makes it hard to get together when we are spread out and far apart. So when we do get together, everything we do seems a bit more precious.

Ten years in the military and it still does not get any easier saying goodbye. Twelve months means I’ll miss Christmas, all three of the kids’ birthdays, my wife’s birthday, our anniversary and the first day of school for the kids. Seeing my daughter clinging to my wife and having my two boys absolutely refusing to let me go, just tears my heart out, but I’ve got a job to do. I keep telling myself to keep my mind on the mission and the time will fly, but I just can’t help to think that by the time I get back, my baby girl will be walking and possibly talking. But as any good soldier knows, success in a mission relies heavily on the preparation for the mission. That’s why before I left; I made sure all of my affairs were in order, including the welfare of my family. I logged onto allhomesecurity.com to check on security systems. I had promised my Mom that I would look into getting one after some houses a couple of blocks over from us got broken into last week. No one was hurt or home when the break-in occurred, but TVs and computers were stolen from each home. The police said that burglars usually try to hit homes when they know that everyone is away. I just could not imagine how violated our neighbors feel who got their homes broken into. The worst part for me would not just be what I lost, but knowing that someone who I did not know was walking around my house. Someone was going through their drawers, looking at their pictures in frames, and fumbling through other personal items. Your home is your own personal safe space. You should be able to leave your home everyday and not worry about someone breaking and entering. All of the neighbors who got broken into did not have alarm systems on their homes. I am sure that they are reconsidering that decision now.

Wow. Having twins is just not what I ever planned, but I’m really excited to start life with my two little boys. We’ve wanted to have children for over five years now, so it’s really a blessing that we’re about to have not one but two! The only bad part about having twins is that we literally need to supply twice as many items for the babies as normal first time parents!
